... is an expression most people would take to mean one is on the way to a quick burnout. Visualize a candle burning from each end and it doesn't take a genius to realize its life will be half its normal expectancy! I propose a lesser thought of, but more timely meaning to the phrase. To burn the candle at both ends means both ends of the day. Like the Perfect Wife in Proverbs 31 ( the original SuperWoman!) some of us are up literally before the sun and still burning a light long after the sun goes down.
My life goes like that. Although I am no where near being the perfect wife portrayed in the Bible (you can ask anyone who knows me!), I am usually the first one up and about each morning. Many nights I am up late into the night either recovering from a busy day or getting ready for the next day. In no way do I feel I am burning myself out. As a matter of fact, when I do my job well, I feel I burn the brightest!
I hope this blog reflects the joy I experience in the midst of all that goes on in our busy household of eight.
