It is hard to believe that it's been ten years since Thomas came into our world. After our fourth child, Becky, was born, we thought we were "done". But thank goodness, God had much better plans for our family, and some of those plans included the addition of two more children!
Thomas's birth was the most dramatic of the six, but I choose not to dwell on that, only on the miraculous outcome! He came into a family of four older siblings... ages 5, 7, 10 and 12, three of them being sisters. Needless to say, he was treated like a little prince! I remember those first mornings that summer. Jessie or Kate would get him from the cradle before I woke . He would be brought to me for his first nursing, all changed, cleaned up and dressed for his day. If he was the little prince, I was definitely the queen!
Thomas adds so much laughter and joy to our household. I am enjoying watching him grow up. Yet, he still has the ability to be a complete and utter goofball one minute, while questioning the meaning of our existence the next. He is defintely an interesting kid!
Yesterday was a great day. Thomas's last day of being nine was spent on the sailboat of some dear friends. It started out as a beautiful day. We sailed for a bit and then dropped anchor with a family member of our friends. Almost immediately we noticed storm clouds gathering in the distance and all sorts of storm warnings coming over the weather radio. We heard a tornado had touched down not far from us, which is unusual. When the storm finally hit, I'd say the worst of it lasted about two minutes. We were glad that we hunkered down and rode it out. From the pictures below, you can see how many boats started out that day... and how many retreated from the storm a short while later. I am glad we stayed and thankful for the seasoned skills of our captain! It turned out to be a great, adventurous day! A terrific end to Thomas's ninth year!
